Advocating for the Autism CARES Act in Washington, D.C.

July  2025

As a passionate advocate for the autism community, I joined a delegation of self-advocates, families, and professionals organized by Autism Speaks. Together, we met with policymakers on Capitol Hill to share our stories and emphasize the ongoing need for the Autism CARES Act—a landmark piece of legislation that ensures vital services, research funding, and support for individuals and families affected by autism across the United States.

What is the Autism CARES Act?

The Autism Collaboration, Accountability, Research, Education, and Support (CARES) Act is the primary federal law addressing autism. It funds important programs for early intervention, education, research, and transition services for people on the autism spectrum. Reauthorized every few years, it requires strong advocacy to ensure continued bipartisan support.

Why This Matters

This experience was not just about legislation—it was about raising voices, increasing awareness, and pushing for real, lasting change. Every person on the autism spectrum deserves access to the resources and opportunities that allow them to thrive. The Autism CARES Act plays a crucial role in making that possible.

Continuing the Mission

Advocacy doesn’t stop in D.C.—it continues in communities every day. I remain dedicated to promoting acceptance, inclusion, and meaningful support for individuals with autism. Whether through speaking engagements, partnerships, or grassroots efforts, I will continue to push for policies and practices that make a difference.
